Goodbye 2025
December Monthly Newsletter
I can’t believe 2025 is almost over. I had no idea my year would look the way it did, but overall it was a good year. If nothing else, I am a published author. It’s on the resumé and will be forever. I’m also an aunt, which is very exciting but I didn’t really do anything to make that happen besides not murdering my sister as a child. I’m looking forward to the upcoming year and getting my book in physical form. (I’m gonna cry for sure when I get it.) I don’t know what 2026 will hold, but I know I’m here for it.
On My Desk
The Mercy of Dragons
Both The Captive Dragon and The Scholar Wyvern are live on Amazon. I did however catch a mistake in The Captive Dragon. Chapter 25 was blank. It was not supposed to be blank. I have fixed it, but if you downloaded it before Dec 19th, you might want to re-download it. If you used Kindle Unlimited, you’ll just need to return it and check it out again. If you purchased the ebook, apparently the way you re-download is different for every device, so I apologize, but you’ll have to look that up on your own. You shouldn’t have to buy it again. (Unless you want to.)
But, part three The Dragon City should be out On Feb 6. Since I at least mostly know what I’m doing now, I should be able to get that one up for pre-orders. (Maybe).
I’m also working with a cover artist so my paperback will have a professional cover. The Canva ones are ok, but I really want this to look nice. I’m hoping to have the paperback ready in May or early June.
The Magic of Selkies
I’m still chugging along with the draft I’m working on. I always seem to slow down as I approach the main climax, which is the worst point for the characters. I both love and hate writing that part and this one is gonna be rough. I have gotten a bit behind schedule, but I’m still aiming to be done with it by the end of May. I’m also going to start editing what I already have, so hopefully, I’ll be able to move forward publishing this one faster than I did The Mercy of Dragons. Title subject to change.
Heir of Stars
Good news everyone! I’ve decided to share Heir of Stars with all of you here on Substack as serial fiction. Partly because it’s ready but I don’t plan to release it as an ebook until after The Mercy of Dragons comes out. Partly because I’m curious to see how it does on Substack. If the serial fiction thing works, I might have a few ideas that might work best serialized. So, I’m going to give it a try with something that I’m basically done with.
I’ll also be working on plotting part two the first half of the year.
Renan
This story is going to take a back seat as I move forward with The Magic of Selkies. I’m pausing editing this one so that I have the bandwidth to edit Isa’s story. I’m at a place where I’m having to write more scenes rather than just edit old ones, and I need to look at some of the plotting and stuff again. I’m moving this one to a fifteen minutes a week goal.
Forests and Caves
Well, I’ve plotted this one but it has yet to make it onto the plot board. It will probably only take me like 20 min to do but I keep putting it off for ADHD reasons, I guess. But sticking with the 15 min a week goal here. That might sound like a useless amount of time, but really these lower-priority projects with small goals like that are more for my brain than something I’m pushing myself to do. They allow me to have something different to work on when my brain is screaming at me for variety. Once other projects are completed, I’ll move them up the list and set more focused goals.
What I’m Into
Reading: I’m still reading Cinderella is Dead and The Sixth Extinction.
Watching: I’m going to start a series on Netflix called Moonhaven. It got cancelled on its original network (AMC) because the network was going under, but it was actually a really popular show on their short-lived streaming service. It’s set in a very solarpunk world and if it gets enough views, it’ll be both a great way to bring people into the movement and maybe we’ll get a second season.
Listening to: My Spotify wrapped, mostly.
Finished this month: Um… yeah I didn’t read as much as I would’ve liked in December, I’ve finished nothing.
Last Words
This year has been long and very exciting. I have a lot to look forward to in 2026 and I’m determined to go into the new year with hope and the belief that we can still save the world. I’m not really making resolutions, but I am making plans. As you plan for your new year remember:
Always be yourself. Unless you can be a dragon, then always be a dragon.
